Design
So during stinger time, I've been discussing design with my kids and on Friday, a great discussion came up. What actually is design? One child said that design was a blueprint for a project, like what his dad uses when designing a new house. Another student said it was what we did when we took notes, it was the lesson designed by me. Another student thought that in some way, everything was a design. I asked her to elaborate and she said that everything was a design, because everything was made by someone who had to sit down and think about it. Then one of my students argued that no one planned the earth, it just exsisted. Her comeback was God had planned it, which turned this discussion into something I hadn't anticipated. This caused quite the debate amongst my students, where they were suddenly on the great debate of whether God existed or not. Obviously I cut this off for fear of losing my job, but my kids wanted to discuss it at length. When I asked them about things they designed in an attempt to return to the discussion at hand, I got lots of different answers. One of my students writes his own music, another is designing his own comic book. Another makes jewelry and yet another makes a webpage for their parent's business. I was surprised at all the different things that my students do. When do they have time to do it all?
